Because of rain, the lane closure and traffic shift on U.S. 73 – K-7 over Piper Creek has been suspended until further notice, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The bridge replacement project was scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5, through late September, according to KDOT.

A new bridge replacement project will start Thursday, June 5, in the Piper area of Kansas City, Kan.
The K-7, U.S. 73 bridge over Piper Creek project begins at 10 a.m. Thursday and lasts through late September, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Northbound and southbound K-7 and U.S. 73 traffic will be shifted and placed side by side, one lane each direction, in the existing U.S. 73 northbound lanes from Parallel Parkway to Donahoo Road.
Traffic will be directed via signs, cones and arrow boards through the project work zone, according to KDOT. There will be a 55 mph posted speed limit through the project work zone throughout the project duration. Drivers should expect major delays during the daily peak time commutes.

The Piper School District budget issue special election question passed 300-164, according to unofficial results from the Wyandotte County Election office.
Voters approved increasing the local option budget 1 percent, from 30 percent to 31 percent. That means an increase of around $150,000 that will be used in the classrooms, according to the district. The tax increase was estimated at about $1.35 a month on a $275,000 home.
Voting in favor of the budget question were 64.66 percent of the voters. Voter turnout was 6.24 percent, according to election figures.
According to Piper school district information, state aid has not kept up with expenses of the district. State aid has declined while operational costs rose 3 percent, according to school district information. State aid in Piper is about $650 less per student than it was eight years ago.
