The Wyandotte County students are Abigail P. Neal and Margaret J. Wolf of Piper High School, and John Cox of Turner High School.
They are among 16,000 semifinalists nationwide who are competing for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships, according to the announcement. The scholarship winners will be named next spring.
