KCKCC not offering summer NYSP camp this year

by Kelly Rogge

Kansas City Kansas Community College will not be offering National Youth Sports Program camp this summer because of extensive renovations going on around the main campus.

The renovations involve the exteriors of many campus buildings, the Field House floor and HVAC system and the softball field.

KCKCC has been holding NYSP for almost 20 years.

Federal funding for the program ended eight years ago, and the college along with Kansas City, Kansas School District’s Kid Zone and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County Parks and Recreation has funded the program since that time.

Campers pay a nominal fee of $25 for the camp.

Swimming, golf, soccer, basketball, volley ball and soft ball have been the mainstays of the program, but the renovations are needed and will proceed when the fewest number of credit students are on campus, a college spokesman said.

For more information, contact Rosemary Lischka, director of continuing education and community services at KCKCC, at 913-288-7246 or email [email protected].

Fundraiser for scholarships to be held Tuesday

Volunteers from Business West will help serve meals at Culver’s from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, to raise funds for a scholarship for students at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Culver’s will contribute 10 percent of its sales of Butter Burgers to the fundraiser. The restaurant is at 1925 Prairie Crossing in Village West, Kansas City, Kan.

The public is invited to attend the fundraiser to help raise scholarship funds for students to attend KCKCC. The scholarship fundraiser is an initiative of Business West.
