Downtown KCK prepares for Latino Arts Festival Saturday
Downtown Kansas City, Kansas, is preparing for the Latino Arts Festival on Saturday, June 3. A free festival and parade will be held Saturday. The parade begins at noon at 4th and Minnesota Avenue. For the festival, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, the 700 block of Minnesota will be blocked off to 8th Street. Two bands will perform, and there will be food from two vendors available for purchase. Low-rider vehicles will be on display at a car show, with a car hopping contest at 5:30 p.m. There also will be several Latino visual artists with displays in the KCK Chamber building. The festival is a joint effort of the Downtown Shareholders, Hallmark, the Kansas City, Kansas, Area Chamber of Commerce, El Centro, H.E.A.R.T., the Bank of Labor and others. Rockfest concert planned for Kansas Speedway on Saturday
Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, will be the site of the Rockfest concert on Saturday, June 3. The concert will run from noon to midnight on June 3, according to information on the concert website. The gates open at 11 a.m. There will be two stages for the entertainment. The concert is sponsored by The Rock 98.9 FM. The group Godsmack is set to perform at 10:40 p.m. Other groups scheduled to be at Rockfest include Sammy Hagar, Volbeat, Ratt, Halestorm, Collective Soul, Buckcherry, P.O.D., Blackberry Smoke, Zakk Sabbath, Candlebox, Cinderella’s Tom Keifer, Andrew Hagar, Sidewise, Watching the Fall, and One Less Reason. ‘Exotic Animals’ program planned at library
An exotic animals program is planned from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the MainKansas City, Kansas, Public Library Storytime – Craft Room, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Summer reading kickoff program planned at West Wyandotte Library
A summer reading kickoff party will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the West Wyandotte Library auditorium, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kansas. The program is for all ages. An inflatable obstacle course, a craft program and lawn games are planned, along with refreshments.

Sporting KC to play Saturday afternoon in KCK
After playing four of the previous five matches away from home, Sporting Kansas City will return to Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas, on Saturday to play host to Minnesota United FC at 4 p.m. in a nationally televised showdown on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. The Western Conference clash will also air live on Sports Radio 810 WHB (English) and La Grande 1340 AM (Spanish), while the Sporting KC Uphoria mobile app will provide live updates. With heavier traffic anticipated in the Village West area due to Rockfest at the Kansas Speedway, ticket holders are encouraged to arrive early to Children’s Mercy Park on Saturday.

Almirola released from hospital after Kansas Speedway accident

Aric Almirola, who was in a serious accident during the Go Bowling 400 Saturday night at Kansas Speedway, has been released from the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, according to a statement from Richard Petty Motorsports Ford.

Almirola was taken to the hospital after a fiery three-car crash on turn two on lap 199 during Saturday night’s Monster Energy Cup Series NASCAR race. He was flown by helicopter to KU Hospital Saturday night.

According to the statement, Almirola suffered a compression fracture to his T5 vertebra from the accident. Even on the track accidents can happen.
