Wednesday night was the Matt Adams show. His two home runs and four RBIs helped the Kansas City Monarchs (16-7) defeat the Winnipeg Goldeyes (11-12) 6-3.

Adams’ bat has been on fire, hitting nine home runs in the past nine games with six of them coming in the last five games.

After a two-out single by Gaby Guerrero, Matt Adams stepped up to the plate and belted a two-run bomb over the banner in right center to give the Monarchs an early 2-0 lead.

The Monarchs extended their lead in the fourth when David Thompson blasted the first pitch he saw over the home run patio in left field, giving the Monarchs a 3-0 lead.

To start off the fifth, Logan Hill roped a double to deep left center field. Andrew Martinez followed this up with a double down the left field line to score Hill. After five innings of play, the Monarchs led 3-1.

Lewis Thorpe kept the Goldeyes’ offense in check. He finished the night throwing 5.2 innings, allowing two runs while striking out four.

The Goldeyes scraped across a run in the sixth, but the Monarchs responded as Jan Hernandez hit a towering fly ball over the home run patio, giving the Monarchs a 4-2 lead. The solo shot marked four home runs in the past four games for Hernandez.

Matt Blackham had a dominant performance in relief, striking out four straight Goldeyes to keep the score 4-2 entering the bottom half of the seventh.

The Monarchs added two more insurance runs when Matt Adams launched his second two-out home run of the night to the exact same spot. The long ball gave Adams his second multi-home run game in the past four games. After seven innings, the Monarchs held a commanding 6-2 lead.

The Goldeyes brought one more run across in the eighth inning, but Jameson McGrane struck out the side in the ninth to slam the door shut and earn his third save of the season.

The Kansas City Monarchs (13-6) extended their winning streak to six straight games while sweeping the Lincoln Saltdogs (11-6) in a 9-3 win Wednesday night.

Matt Adams hit another home run, producing five in the last six home games as the Monarchs’ offense pounded out 14 hits.

The Monarchs got the scoring started in the first inning off Lincoln’s starter, Garrett Delano (0-1). Darnell Sweeney drove a base hit to right field before Kevin Santa aimed to deep left field with a double. Gaby Guerrero brought them both in with a two-RBI single to give Kansas City a 2-0 lead going into the second.

In the third inning, Santa bounced a high chopper behind the mound to advance to first base before Guerrero singled again, this time to right field. Matt Adams came to the plate and launched one out to the home run hill in right field adding onto the Monarchs 5-0 lead.

Lincoln’s Randy Norris hit a single to left field, and Josh Altmann aimed for deep left-center with a double. Eddy Martinez also hit a base hit double to bring in Norris and Altmann, cutting into Kansas City’s lead at 5-2 in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, J.C. Escarra led off the inning with solo home run that was rocketed to right field, bringing the score to 6-2.

While the offense was in high gear, the pitching was once again stellar for the Monarchs. Jon Harris (1-1) got the starting nod for KC and tossed a quality start. The former Missouri State University product worked six innings, surrendering three runs on five hits, to pick up his first win as a Monarch.

In the home half of the fifth, Matt Adams was walked before David Thompson hit an RBI triple down the right field line to score Adams. Pete Kozma followed with an RBI double to left center extending the lead to 8-2.

In the top of the sixth inning, Altmann homered to left field as the ball landed in the Lincoln bullpen, shortening the lead to 8-3.

Monarchs relivers Matt Blackam and Brandon Koch each struck out the side in the seventh and eighth innings to keep the Saltdogs off the bases.

In the bottom of the eighth, Sweeney and Santa both hit singles before Guerrero was walked to first. With the bases loaded, Hernandez was hit by a pitch by Brandon Cunniff to bring in Sweeney, making the score 9-3. Jameson McGrane would punch out two in a scoreless ninth inning to close out the win for Kansas City.

The Kansas City Monarchs (12-6) offense exploded for 17 hits and 11 runs to beat the Lincoln Saltdogs (11-5), 11-6 Tuesday night.

The Monarchs are currently on a five-game winning streak and have done so in commanding fashion. Tuesday night’s game makes four straight games with at least 15 hits. The Monarchs have also scored 11 or more runs in their past five games.

The Monarchs picked up where they left off Monday night.

Willie Abreu led off the game with a single to left field. Gaby Guerrero then grinded a seven-pitch at bat to work a walk.

After a double steal from Abreu and Guerrero, David Thompson drove a hard ground ball past third baseman Eddy Martinez to score Abreu.

Scorching hot Jan Hernandez stepped up to the plate and roped a single to right field to score Guerrero and Thompson. After the first inning, the Monarchs led 3-0.

The Monarchs tacked on another run in the second inning as Darnell Sweeney lined into center field to bring in Pete Kozma. After two innings of play, the Monarchs led 4-0.

A two-out solo home run by Hunter Clanin brought the Saltdogs within three runs, but the Monarchs answered in the bottom of the third.

Guerrero led off the inning with a single into left-center field. Matt Adams followed with a single of his own to the right-center gap, bringing Guerrero to third.

Thompson delivered a three-run moonshot to left field, marking back-to-back games with a home run. After three innings, the Monarchs gained a commanding 7-1 lead over the Saltdogs.

Lewis Thorpe (2-0) was solid for the Monarchs making his fourth start of the season. The left-hander from Australia tossed 5.1 innings, holding the Saltdogs to two hits and one earned run. Thorpe struck out four and secured his second win of the season.

Both teams stayed quiet in the fourth and fifth innings until the Saltdogs came to life in the top of the sixth. Eddy Martinez pieced a ground ball to Kozma, but he made an error on the play, allowing Randy Norris to score.

After Sherman Graves drove in Josh Altmann with a single, Garett Delano walked with the bases loaded to score Welington Dotel. J.R. DiSarcina singled to score Martinez, and the inning ended with the Saltdogs down two runs, 7-5.

In the top of the seventh, the Saltdogs inched closer to the Monarchs as Dotel hit a solo homerun to right field, bringing them within one.

The Monarchs responded, yet again. Guerrero led off the inning with a soft ground ball to third that he legged out for a hit. Adams and Thompson each singled to load the bases for Hernandez.

After five pitches, Carter Hope walked Hernandez to give the Monarchs another run. J.C. Escarra entered the game, replacing Alexis Olmeda at catcher. He peppered a single to right field to score Adams, but Thompson and Hernandez scored after the ball got past right fielder Dotel. The Monarchs ended the seventh inning up big, 11-6.

Matt Hartman shut down the Saltdogs as he threw two scoreless innings to finish the game.

The Monarchs will play the Lincoln Saltdogs in the final game of the series at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 1. The game can be heard on the Monarchs Broadcast Network with the pre-game beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the video stream airing on aabaseball.tv.
