Eastbound I-670 to close for bridge work on Saturday, Sept. 24

Crews will close all eastbound lanes of I-670 between I-35 and I-70-71 on the south side of the downtown loop from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, for work on the new Grand Avenue Bridge in Kansas City, Mo., according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

All work is weather dependent, a spokesman said.

Traffic can bypass the closure using eastbound I-70 – I-35 around the north side of the downtown loop, according to the spokesman.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention as they drive past work zones, the spokesman said. Not all work zones look alike. Work zones can be moving operations, such as striping, patching or mowing, according to the spokesman. They can also be short term, temporary lane closures to make quick repairs or remove debris from the roadway.

Motorists to move from old Platte Purchase Bridge to new U.S. 69 Missouri River Bridge on Wednesday

Crews will transfer southbound traffic from the Old Platte Purchase Bridge to the new U.S. 69 Missouri River Bridge beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, according to Missouri transportation officials.

All northbound U.S. 69 traffic will not be affected. All work is weather dependent.

This is part of a project to replace the current U.S. 69 Highway Bridge over the Missouri River, according to a MoDOT spokesman. The bridge connects Wyandotte County with Platte County.

A new structure will be constructed in its place and will include multiple lanes and bike/pedestrian access. It will be completely open to traffic in December 2016.

This project is shared by the Kansas Department of Transportation and MoDOT. For more information about the project, follow MoDOT on twitter at twitter.com/MoDOT_KC, #us69moriverbridge or the website at www.modot.mo.gov/kansascity.

The Missouri Department of Transportation urged all motorists to always wear safety belts, follow posted speed limits and be alert for slowed traffic, narrowed lanes or a reduced number of lanes during construction and maintenance work.

Eastbound I-70 closure postponed

Plans to close eastbound I-670 on Saturday, Sept. 17, have been postponed, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Inclement weather is the reason for the delay in the plans, the spokesman said. The closure was planned on the south side of the downtown loop in Kansas City, Mo.

A reschedule date has not yet been determined, according to the spokesman, and all work depends on the weather.
