Flash flood warning in effect through 10 a.m.

A flash flood warning is in effect through 10 a.m. Oct. 8, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning is in effect for Wyandotte, Johnson and Miami counties in Kansas, Clay, eastern Platte and Jackson counties in Missouri, the weather service stated.

Spotters have reported some creeks and streams out of their banks, flooding some roadways across the Kansas City area, the weather service stated.

Flash flooding is expected to continue for a few hours with additional rainfall expected.

Additional rainfall of up to 1 to 2 inches is possible.

I-70, I-35, I-635 and I-435 are included in the list of areas where the warning is in effect.

Motorists should turn around when they see flooded roads and not try to drive through them.

A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring.

If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately.

Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.

Annual KC Irish Fest kicks off tonight

The annual KC Irish Fest kicks off tonight at Crown Center, 2450 Grand Blvd. in Kansas City, Missouri.

The event features seven stages with more than 30 bands, with activities promoting cultural heritage.

It runs from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.

The Elders, Eddie Delahunt, Gaelic Storm and The High Kings are just a few of the musical groups that will perform.

Besides music, there will be performances by dance groups and also, comedy acts.

Wyandotte County residents will be participating in a Driscoll School of Irish Dance performance on Sunday. Also, some Wyandotte County residents are participating by staffing a fundraising booth at the event.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase, and there will be activities for children, as well as booths offering items for sale.

Savoy Grill, memorable landmark restaurant, is open again

The Savoy Grill, a legend in time, is back in service.

A lot of us remember the Savoy Grill as a child. Well, it’s back in service.

About 15 to 20 people who work in various departments of the Savoy Grill are from Wyandotte County, and make history come alive.

The Savoy Grill, one of the most successful restaurants in Kansas City history, reopened about three weeks ago.

Prices are reasonable for what you get, for the most part. As you enter the restaurant, you see how the past has evolved into the present.

The new owners have totally redone this place to make it one of the biggest legends in Kansas City history. Legend has it that well-known figures in Kansas City history ate at the Savoy Grill. Once, according to legend, Houdini was locked into a phone booth there.

I give this restaurant five stars in all categories, service, quality and décor. This is one of those places that you must try before you die. I highly recommend it with five stars all the way around. This is truly a legend in its own time.

The Savoy Grill is one of Kansas City’s most distinctive landmarks. It recently reopened and a lot of people from Wyandotte County work there, helping this legend of the past come alive.
