Colquitt to be featured speaker at GKC Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast Feb. 25

The 59th Annual Greater Kansas City Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast, co-sponsored by more than 30 area mayors, will be held at 7;30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Grand Ballroom of the downtown Kansas City, Missouri Convention Center.

More than 900 persons are expected to attend.

The breakfast speaker will be Dustin Colquitt, Kansas City Chiefs long-time punter, with a stirring message about faith and football.

Colquitt has been a member of the Chiefs for 15 years and has played in more than 225 games – he holds the franchise record for the longest punt of 81 yards and was the Chief’s nominee for the 2020 prestigious NFL Walter Payton Man Of The Year Award

The Greater Kansas City Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast organization was founded in 1961 by Kansas City, Missouri, banker Clair Schroeder and then Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor H. Roe Bartle to emphasize ethics, morality and spirituality in business, the professions and government.

Over the years thousands of individuals have attended and taken part in the Annual Greater Kansas City Mayors’ Prayer Breakfasts.

Road conditions causing delays for paratransit service

Most RideKC buses have been using regular routes on Sunday. A handful of buses are delayed an average of 10 minutes due to road conditions, according to a RideKC spokesman.

The 31 31st Street will stay on 40 Highway between Pittman and Sterling. The 12 12th Street is not traveling into Nowlin Hall.

If traveling Sunday, be careful getting on and off buses and walking to your bus stop, according to a spokesman.

For the remainder of Sunday, RideKC Freedom paratransit is under Phase B of the Inclement Weather Plan, with some customers experiencing delays of 60 minutes or more. Customers with non-critical trips may want to cancel and reschedule. RideKC Freedom will start Monday, Jan. 13, in Phase B.

Boat and Sport Show offers escape from cold winter day

From Jan. 9 to 12, the annual Kansas City Boat, Sport and Travel Show is happening at Bartle Hall in Kansas City, Missouri, with over 130 vendors from all over.

There are representatives from Canada, Illinois, Kansas and Missouri at the show.

Illinois had brochures not just on fishing and hunting, but also on the wines the state has to offer, for wine enthusiasts.

Kansas was well represented, with brochures on virtually everything that goes on in the state.

Missouri also had a lot of brochures, and had very knowledgeable representation.

For those who love to fish, who doesn’t think of a Canadian fishing trip? I am one of those dreaming of a fishing trip on a cold winter day.

As I went to the Sports Show, fond memories of my childhood occurred. This is where I met Harold Ensley, the Sportsman’s Friend. Ensley passed away 14 years ago.

On a cold winter day, this is the place to go. Spend some time, there is a lot to see and learn about. They even have fishing seminars.

For the $12 admission price, you can hardly beat it. It’s an event you and your family must do on a cold winter day.
