KCK mail carrier accused of stealing mail and checks on Missouri route

A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier was indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday for stealing mail from customers on his route and depositing their checks into his own bank account.


Lane A. Snider, 21, of Kansas City, Kansas, was charged in a 13-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Kansas City, Missouri.


Snider was employed as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Kansas City, Missouri, from June 13 to Aug. 6. Snider allegedly took, then opened mail addressed to customers on his route. He removed checks from the opened mail, the indictment says, and deposited them into his own bank account, according to the indictment.


The indictment charged Snider with one count of stealing mail, and 12 counts of bank fraud. Each of the 12 bank fraud counts is related to the deposit of a stolen check, in amounts ranging from $25 to $500.

This case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Courtney R. Pratten. It was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

Veterans Day events are being held today at the National World War I Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri.

Admission is free to veterans and active-duty military personnel through Sunday, Nov. 15.

General admission for the public is half-prie on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Additionally, ample social distancing space is available throughout the indoor galleries and, in conjunction with Kansas City’s executive order, guests are required to wear face masks inside the museum.

KCK man charged in fatal shootings of two in Missouri

Juan C. Berumen, 27, of Kansas City, Kansas, was charged today in the fatal shootings of two persons in Kansas City, Missouri.

The shootings took place at a gas station in Kansas City, Missouri, according to authorities.

Berumen was charged with two degree murder, second degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

The shootings took place in the parking lot of a gas station in the West Bottoms, according to court documents. Investigators found 25 shell casings in the parking lot.
