Seattle Sounders to visit Sporting KC on Saturday in KCK

Sporting Kansas City will look to extend the club’s six-game unbeaten run when it plays host to league leaders Seattle Sounders FC at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan.

A limited number of tickets, including standing room only tickets released, may be available via Ticketmaster.com and the first 10,000 fans through the gates will receive a commemorative Matt Besler poster.

Saturday’s match will be televised locally on KMCI-TV 38 the Spot and across the Midwest on SKCTV with three hours of coverage beginning at 7 p.m. In addition, Sports Radio 810 WHB (English) and La Grande 1340 AM (Spanish) will provide live broadcasts for their listening audiences in Kansas City.

Single-game tickets for Sporting Kansas City home matches from July through October went on sale this week via Ticketmaster.com. Tickets were available for the first time for the following matches:
• Sat., July 18: Sporting KC vs. Montreal
• Sat., Aug. 1: Sporting KC vs. Houston
• Sat., Aug. 15: Sporting KC vs. Vancouver
• Wed., Aug. 19: Sporting KC vs. San Jose
• Fri., Sept. 18: Sporting KC vs. FC Dallas
• Sun., Sept. 27: Sporting KC vs. Seattle
• Sun., Oct. 25: Sporting KC vs. LA Galaxy

Sporting Kansas City forward Dom Dwyer is one of eight Sporting KC nominees on the fan ballot for the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Game. Voting began last week and will continue online, via social media and through EA SPORTS FIFA 15 until July 3.

Other Sporting KC players on the ballot include Tim Melia, goalkeeper; Jalil Anibaba and Matt Besler, defenders; Roger Espinoza, Benny Feilhaber and Graham Zusi, midfielders; and Kriztian Nemeth, forward.

Traveling Vietnam Wall on exhibit at Liberty Memorial

The AVTT Traveling Vietnam Wall is on exhibit at the Liberty Memorial Museum on Memorial Day weekend.

The wall will be available for public viewing through 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 25, when there will be a closing ceremony.

A Memorial Day Ceremony is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. May 25 in the Memorial Courtyard in front of Memory Hall at the Liberty Memorial.

Also on display through today is a Vietnam-era Bell UH-1 Iroquois “Huey” helicopter, near the south walkway entrance.

A vintage military vehicle display is on exhibit through 5 p.m. Monday, May 25, on the southeast lawn of the Liberty Memorial. It will have military vehicles from World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm.

All the activities and displays are free to the public today.

Baseball teams in playoffs this week

Regional baseball contests have been scheduled, including two in Wyandotte County.

Bonner Springs will play host to the Class 4A Division 1 boys baseball regional May 18-19.

No. 5 ranked Bonner Springs, 3-16, will play No. 4 Tonganoxie, 5-14, at 2 p.m. May 18 at Bonner Springs.

The winner of this game will play the No. 1 seed, Piper, 12-6, at 6 p.m. May 18 at Bonner Springs.

Also in this regional is No. 3 ranked Sumner Academy, 6-11, which will play No. 2 Basehor-Linwood, 8-12, at 4 p.m. May 18 at Bonner Springs.

Class 4A, Division 2

In Class 4A, Division 2 playoff action, No. 4 Bishop Ward, 9-7, will play No. 1 Santa Fe Trail, 14-2, at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. Bishop Ward is the host for the playoff.

Also in this playoff, No. 2 ranked Meriden-Jefferson West, 14-3, will play No. 3 Perry-Lecompton, 14-5, at 2 p.m. May 19 at CommunityAmerica.

Class 5A
In Class 5A playoff action, No. 5 Schlagle, 7-11, will play No. 4 Leavenworth, 9-11, at Bettis Sports Park at 2 p.m. May 19.

No. 2 Washington, 12-3, will play No. 7 Topeka West, 6-14, at 4 p.m. May 19 at Eisenhower Field.

In another Class 5A regional, No. 8 Harmon, 0-12, will play No. 1 St. Thomas Aquinas, 18-2, at 2 p.m. May 18 at Johnson County Community College.

No. 5 Turner, 12-6, will take on No. 4 Blue Valley West High School, 14-6, at 4 p.m. May 18 at Johnson County Community College.

Class 6A
In Class 6A regional playoff action, No. 10 Wyandotte, 3-7, takes on No. 3 Blue Valley Northwest, 13-7, at 4 p.m. May 21 at SWDAC.
