Democrats to meet Saturday

Guest speakers at the Saturday morning, Nov. 19, Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will be Bill Reardon, former state representative who served almost 30 years in the Legislature, and Richard Benson, a retired Democratic Party activist with five decades of experience. The gathering will begin around 8:15 a.m. Saturday at Las Islas Sports Bar and Grill, 4929 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The program will begin around 9:15 a.m. Those attending do not have to purchase a breakfast; they can just listen to the programs. The meeting is open only to Democrats. Breakfast plates are $10, or $7 for students and those on limited incomes. A sponsor is available for students attending their first breakfast with the group. Those who want to sponsor breakfasts in 2023 for a $120 donation may contact [email protected].

Holiday craft fair planned

A Holiday Craft Fair is planned from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Turner High School commons. The event includes craft and vendor booths, food trucks and student performances. Proceeds will benefit the Turner High School Band’s future trips.

Basketball planned Saturday at KCKCC

The KCKCC Blue Devils women’s team will play No. 3 CCBC-Essex at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the KCKCC Fieldhouse, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

Holiday Light and Magic show tonight

The Holiday Light and Magic show is running through the holidays at the Wyandotte County Parks, 126th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs.

Hours are 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19.

A drive-through event with holiday lighting , there are more than 60 character scenes including Santa Claus, Nutcrackers and Snowglobes.

Admission charges are $25 per regular car or vehicle, $40 for commercial limousine or van, and $55 for commercial bus.

The Mayor’s Downtown Holiday Lighting Festival kicked off the holiday season on a frosty Friday evening, Nov. 18, at City Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.

Temperatures were in the 20s for the free event.

The festival was back in person this year after a couple of years of modified drive-through events.
