Volunteers from Holy Family Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kansas, prepared 200 strudels recently for the annual Slovenefest, which will be held Sept. 28 at the Monsignor Mejak Hall and Holy Family School grounds, 513 Ohio. The event will include a traditional Slovenian dinner, music and family entertainment. The funds raised will support Holy Family Church. The festival begins after the 4 p.m. Mass on Sept. 28 at Holy Family Church, 274 Orchard St., Kansas City, Kansas. The festival from 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 28 includes children’s and adult games, cultural booth, souvenirs, a silent auction, authentic Slovenian food including sarma (stuffed cabbage rolls), poljene paprika (stuffed peppers), krvavica (a specialty sausage), Slovenian potato salad and green beans. Tamburitza music from Hravatski Obicaj is featured from 5 to 6 p.m., and Slovenian polkas by the Brian McCarty Band are planned from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Gospel Non-Violence Study Group will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 759 Vermont Ave., Suite 100-B, Kansas City, Kansas. The group is facilitated by Peg Burns Kerbawy.

Our Lady of Unity parish, 2646 S. 34th St., Kansas City, Kansas, is planning Unity Fest 2019 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. Barbecue and Mexican-style foods will be available, along with mariachi music and Hispanic dance groups for entertainment. Carnival games and inflatables will be included. A silent auction will take place in the church basement.

Members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas, joined with other Episcopal churches across the nation who rang bells Sunday, Aug. 25, to remember and honor enslaved Africans. The first ship of African slaves arrived at what is now the state of Virginia in 1619. St. Paul’s members will observe the twelfth Sunday after Pentecost at 10 a.m. Sept. 1.

St. Peter’s Fall Festival is planned from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 422 N. 14th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

Stony Point Christian Church, 149 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kansas, will hold a morning worship service at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, with Sunday school at 9 a.m.

Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave., Kansas City, Kansas, will meet for worship services on Sept. 1 at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m.

Holy Family Altar Society, friends and family gathered together Saturday to prepare 150 apple strudels for Slovenefest 2019 at Holy Family Club, 513 Ohio, Kansas City, Kansas.

Slovenefest is set for Saturday, Sept. 28, at Monsignor Mejak Hall and Holy Family School Grounds in Kansas City, Kansas.

The festival begins with Mass at 4 p.m. Sept. 28 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 274 Orchard St., Kansas City, Kansas.

A traditional Slovenian dinner, polka music with the Brian McCarty Band, tamburitza music by Hrvatski Obicaj, family entertainment for children and adult games are planned. Slovenefest will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 28. All funds raised will support Holy Family Church.
