Festival today raises funds for Sisters, Servants of Mary

The Sisters, Servants of Mary, plan a summer festival from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at the sisters’ convent grounds at 800 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan.

Funds raised at this event benefit the Sisters, Servants of Mary, who do not charge for nursing care for individuals and families.

At the festival, there will be tacos, tamales, Italian sausage, barbecue sandwiches and desserts. There will be games, booths and cookbooks for sale.

Risen Lamb International Church of the Nazarene, located in the Turner area of Kansas City, Kan., has announced the opening of the Risen Lamb Prayer Room and Retreat Center. On location at their church at 5301 Metropolitan Avenue, the prayer room and retreat center is open to the public for daytime retreats. All individuals or small groups seeking a quiet, sacred space to gather, pray, meditate, journal or read resources about prayer are welcome. The prayer room provides a peaceful space for solitude or can be scheduled in advance for groups of up to eight people. Guests seeking spiritual guidance may schedule a time of spiritual direction with one of the pastoral staff, and groups may inquire about scheduling a member of the pastoral team to lead or speak at a retreat. St. Mary-St. Anthony Catholic Church, 615 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan., plans an ethnic festival from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Bishop Forst Hall. Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. June 11, with the festival following. The ethnic festival will be held indoors in the large, air-conditioned Bishop Forst Hall. Featured will be German, Irish and Hispanic cuisine. The event includes a bounce house and games. Also, there will be a disc jockey.

Members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan., will observe the fourth Sunday in Pentecost June 12. The Rev. Stevie Carter and the Rev. Jim Cummins, both deacons, will lead the service of morning prayer in English at 10 a.m. A service in Spanish will be at 7 p.m.

Chaplain returns to Bishop Ward

Bishop Ward High School has announced announce that Father Anthony G. Ouellette, a priest of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, will be returning to the school as community chaplain.

“We are grateful to have Fr. Ouellette join the community at Bishop Ward High School where he will serve as a chaplain to the students and the Ward family,” stated Father Tom Schrader, O. Carm., president of Bishop Ward.

Father Ouellette served in the U.S. Navy, 1992-1998, where he served as an electronics technician, spending four and a half years of that time overseas in Asia. After one year of college upon his discharge, he was accepted by his archdiocese as a seminarian and studied for three years at Conception Seminary College, Conception, Mo., and finished his formation at the Pontifical North American College in Rome.

Since his ordination, he has served as an associate pastor, a high school chaplain at Bishop Ward High School (2006 to 2009), and has been pastor for five different parishes. He was assigned as the ecclesial assistant to the charismatic renewal for his archdiocese in 2009.

“I really enjoyed my previous assignment as chaplain at Bishop Ward, and I look forward to returning and being an official part of the school’s mission once again,” Father Ouellette said about returning to the school.

His current assignment is as pastor of All Saints Parish, Kansas City, Kan., which is the consolidation of six different parishes.
