Garage and bake sale planned Nov. 6-8

Young Women on the Move is planning its annual garage and bake sale Nov. 6-8 at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 2907 N. 81st St., Kansas City, Kan.

Funds raised will help to support program expenses such as transportation, Saturday workshops, the new peer health mentorship program and expansion of after-school programs into eight middle schools.

Donations for the garage sale or baked items are being accepted. Donations may be gently used clothing, jewelry, kitchen cookware, dishes, toys, books, furniture, home décor and other items.

‘My Shelf to Yours Book Sale’ to assist KCKCC students

The “My Shelf to Yours Book Sale” is returning to Kansas City Kansas Community College next week, raising funds for students on campus.

The sale is from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 28 and 30 and 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in Room 2325 on the lower level of the Jewell Building on the KCKCC campus, 7250 State Ave. The sale is open to the public as well as students, staff and faculty.

All books will be $1 or seven books for $5. All proceeds will be placed into a student scholarship fund for textbooks and tuition for those in financial need.

In addition, there will also be beverages and snacks for sale as well as fashion jewelry and other local vendors.

“My Shelf to Yours at KCKCC” was created in 2010 as a way to promote scholarship, leadership, entrepreneurship and sustainability by selling donated used books both on-line and on-ground. As of July 2014, “My Shelf to Yours” has received more than 45,500 donated books and assisted more than 260 students with textbooks.

Any unsold book donations from the sale will be donated to local charities and organizations.

Halloween Trunk or Treat to be Saturday

A Halloween Trunk or Treat event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Wyandotte County Fairgrounds, 13700 Polfer Road, Kansas City, Kan.

The event, sponsored by the Wyandotte County Fair Board, is a benefit for the Wyandotte County Fair Foundation 4-H Scholarships.

The admission charge of $5 per child ages 2 and up will include hayride, trunk or treating, haunted petting zoo, games and a hot dog around the fire pits.

The public is invited to the event. Family activities are geared to ages 3 to 15, and parents or adults should accompany the children.

Volunteers including 4-H members and adults will be working at the trunk or treat.

The fairgrounds location is east of K-7 on Polfer Road in northwest Wyandotte County.
