Mayor’s state of government speech to be Tuesday

Mayor Mark Holland’s state of the Unified Government speech will be given Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the Reardon Civic Center, 5th and Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kan.

The host of the speech is the Downtown Kansas City, Kan., Rotary Club, and reservations have already closed for the luncheon.

Those who can’t attend the event may watch it streamed live on the Unified Government website at http://www.wycokck.org/InternetDept.aspx?id=18788&banner=15284&menu_id=1366.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m., and lasts until 1 p.m.

Events focus on college financial support for Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools seniors

Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools is holding several “Financing College” events to provide high school seniors and their families with resources to help them apply for college financial aid.

The times, dates and locations:
• Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at KCKPS Central Office
• Thursday, Feb. 26, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Wyandotte High School
• Monday, April 13, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at KCKPS Central Office

Staff will be available to help families complete FAFSA applications (W-2 information and 2014 tax returns will be needed). Other financial aid resources will be available. “Financing College” events are free to attend and refreshments will be provided.

“Financing College” is sponsored by the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools and the College Access and Success Partners (Kansas City Kansas Community College, Donnelly College, KU TRIO Talent Search, Kansas Kids @ Gear Up, KU Office of Financial Aid, KU Center for Educational Opportunity Programs and Prep-KC).

Fairfax group to meet March 12

The Fairfax Industrial Association will meet at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, March 12, for its March luncheon.

The guest speaker will be Greg Cotton, Sporting Kansas City’s general counsel and chief of staff.

The meeting will be held at Reddi Services, 603 Funston, Kansas City, Kan., which is the meeting sponsor.

The cost of the luncheon is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers.
