Marble Crazy planned March 7
The 15th annual Marble Crazy, a contemporary art glass marble show, will continues March 7. The event is based at the Moon Marble Co. store, 600 E. Front St., (west of Highway 7 on K-32), Bonner Springs. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 7. Visitors to the free event will be able to see about 20 artists in glassblowing and furnace working. For information, visit www.marblecrazy.com.

Math Relays to be held today
On March 7, the Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools will hold its 11th annual Math Relays event, bringing together elementary, middle and high school students for a day of individual and team problem solving that challenges their minds and advances their math skills. This year, an estimated 1,100-plus students are anticipated to take part in the event, which will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Wyandotte High School.

Wyandotte County Museum features World War I exhibit
The Wyandotte County Historical Society and Museum, 635 N. 126th, Bonner Springs, Kan., will feature a historical exhibit about the local effect of World War I, “Local Poppies: Centennial of World War I.” The exhibit will include information Wyandotte County service members, war memorabilia, propaganda posters and local memorials from Wyandotte County. Project Feederwatch continues
Project Feederwatch continues at the Schlagle Environmental Library at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 91st and Leavenworth Road. The bird count is planned each Saturday when people sign up in advance. For more information, call 913-299-2384.

Alcott Arts Center to hold auditions today and March 14
Alcott Arts Center will hold auditions today for Alcott’s 2015 Shakespeare in the Parking Lot VIII production. This year’s play will be Shakespeare’s “Love’s Labors Lost” and will be directed by Susan Proctor. Auditions will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. March 7 and 10 a.m. to noon March 14 at Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan. Participants are asked to dress warmly.

Strawberry Hill Museum reopens today
The Strawberry Hill Museum, 720 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan., will reopen this weekend. The museum was closed after the holidays and is reopening after redecorations. The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. March 7 and 8. There will be a visiting artist exhibit from the Wyandnotte County Hisotrical Museum on display. Marble artists creating glass art today, Saturday at ‘Marble Crazy’ in Bonner Springs

Sixteen marble artists are at the 15th annual Marble Crazy show today and Saturday in Bonner Springs, Kan.

The artists are taking turns demonstrating their work at the Moon Marble Co., 600 E. Front St., on K-32 just west of K-7 in Bonner Springs.

Artists come from throughout the nation, and some from this area, to make marbles using glass imported from Italy. While there is a furnace on site for this event, most of the artists are using a torch to craft the marbles this weekend, according to the event organizers.

Often, handmade marbles start at $25 and some can fetch up to $1,200 in price.

There is no charge for the public to attend and watch demonstrations of marble-making. The event is open from now until 9 p.m. Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

In conjunction with the Bonner Springs event, a marble collectors’ show is being held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Holiday Inn, 8787 Reeder Road, Overland Park, by the Kansas City Marble Collectors Club. Admission is free.

KCKCC to hold Shamrock Games March 12

Kansas City Kansas Community College’s Wellness and Fitness Center is asking everyone how far they can throw a shamrock in preparation for the center’s second-annual Shamrock Games.

The Shamrock Games are at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at the KCKCC Wellness and Fitness Center. The event is free and open to the public.

“The Shamrock Games are a great way for our students to interact with our staff, faculty and community members in a competitive environment,” said Joseph Mundt, wellness specialist at the KCKCC Wellness and Fitness Center. “The contest is a score prediction competition, which makes it an even playing field for older or younger age groups.”

Games include ShamRockin Bowl, the Pot of Gold Toss, Leprechaun Head Catch, the Gold Coin Fling, ShamRakin, the ShamRock Obstacle Course and the ShamRock Race. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. However, all activities must be attempted to get a final score. Donations will also be accepted for the American Cancer Society of Kansas City.

“Many of our participants have said while participating, ‘I haven’t done this stuff since I was a kid,’” Mundt said. “Also during the Shamrock Games, many of the events are geared toward improving hand-eye coordination which tends to lack as we all get older. I think the ShamRock Games gives people a small change from their regular workout routine, which sometimes is the change they need to kick their workout up to the next gear.”
