Halloween events planned today

If you missed Halloween events held last week, there are still a few events being held today for kids.

Adults should accompany children going trick-or-treating or to events.

KCK Libraries

The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Libraries have several events happening at their different locations.


West Wyandotte Library has a paper pumpkin take-home craft available for ages 3 and older. Also at West Wyandotte are a Scavenger Haunt and a Storywalk Monster Parade.


Turner Community Library has a pumpkin ornament craft for all ages. Turner also is offering a funny face pumpkin frame take-home craft for all ages.


The Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library has an adult take-home craft, a spider web wreath.

Alcott Arts Center

Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th, Kansas City, Kansas, will hold its annual outdoor Halloween event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.

The creations of Tim Burton, known for horror films such as Beetlejuice and the Nightmare Before Christmas, will be the theme of the event.

Free ice cream cones

Quik Trip is offering a free vanilla cone to trick-or-treaters ages 12 and younger on Halloween night. Children must be dressed in costume and come inside QuikTrip between 4 p.m. and the QT Kitchen closing time to receive the free cone.

Trunk-or-treat


A trunk-or-treat will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Bristol Hill United Methodist Church, 4826 County Line Road, Kansas City, Kansas. It is a safe alternative to traditional trick-or-treating. Kids may wear their costumes.

‘Souls to Polls’ today

Souls to the Polls: Get Out the Vote Car Caravan, will be 9:30 am. to 11 a.m. at Kansas City Kansas Community College, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Boo Bash today at library

Nebraska Furniture Mart, will hold a Halloween Spooktacular for kids from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the store at Village West. Jack O Lantern Jamboree at Ag Hall

The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame, Bonner Springs, is holding a Jack O Lantern Jamboree from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at 630 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs. The event includes a Halloween story trail, hay ride, train ride, costume contest, and concessions will be available. There is a charge of $10 per vehicle. Healthy Halloween event at Rosedale Arch

A Healthy Halloween event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Rosedale Memorial Arch, located in Mount Marty Park, west of Rainbow Boulevard, Kansas City, Kansas. It is a family event for all ages. Those participating should bring a flashlight. Masquerade Ball to raise funds against domestic violence

The WyCo Sisterhood Foundation will hold a Masquerade Ball at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Renaissance Festival, 130th and State, Bonner Springs, Kansas. VIP admission is at 5:30 p.m. and general admission is at 8:30 p.m. The foundation is partnering with the Friends of Yates for this fundraiser against domestic violence. There will be a costume contest, raffle, silent auction and live entertainment. Donations of coats are being accepted for children in the Bonner Springs school district. Free movie showing at Legends Lawn

The movie, “Coco,” will be shown at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, on the Legends Lawn. The family-friendly movie will play on the outdoor big screen at the Legends Lawn, on the west side of the Legends Outlets shopping center, I-70 and I-435 in Kansas City, Kansas. There is no charge for the movie. Participants may bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Neighborhood groups to present informational session on fentanyl on Monday

Some neighborhood groups have joined to present an informational session on Monday on the dangers of fentanyl.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the Christ the King Church basement, 3024 N. 53rd St. The meeting may last two hours. Neighbors Who Care and other area neighborhood groups are sponsoring the program.

Fentanyl is a dangerous and deadly drug, a synthetic opioid, according to neighborhood leaders. Deaths have resulted from some overdoses.

The meeting is free and open to the public.
