Red Cross blood drives scheduled

American Red Cross blood drives have been scheduled for Wyandotte County.

There is an urgent need for blood donors, according to the Red Cross.

Amazon is giving Red Cross blood donors a $5 gift card by email from June 14 to June 30.

Upcoming blood drives include:

  • Friday, June 25, from 1 pm. to 6 p.m. at the Patricia “Diane” Kane Community Center, 3130 N. 122nd St., Kansas City, Kansas.
  • Wednesday, July 7, from noon to 5 p.m., Cabelas, 10300 Cabela Drive, Kansas City, Kansas.
  • Wednesday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Cabelas, 10300 Cabela Drive, Kansas City, Kansas.
  • Monday, July 19, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, South Branch, 3104 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 4, from noon to 5 p.m., Cabelas, 10300 Cabela Drive, Kansas City, Kansas.

Kobach, Tyson to speak at GOP women’s club meeting

The Wyandotte County Republican Women’s Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. July 13 at the Moose Lodge, 6621 Turner Drive, Kansas City, Kansas.

Guest speakers will be Kris Kobach, a candidate for Kansas secretary of state, and Caryn Tyson, a state senator from Parker, Kansas.

They will be introduced by former state Sen. Kevin Braun, R-5th Dist.

Wyandotte County Fair to be July 13 to 17

The Wyandotte County Fair is back and will take place July 13 through 17.

The fair will be following the Health Department’s recommendations and guidelines to make sure fairgoers have a safe and fun time at the fair, according to a spokesman.

New to the fair this year will be a rodeo and military appreciation night.

• The Rodeo – July 16 and 17. High Stakes Rodeo, a member of the United Rodeo Association will include Bronco Riding, Calf Robing, Barrel Racing, Team Roping, Steer Wrestling and Bull Riding. Interested riders can go to the website to register at www.highstakesrodeo.com.

• Military Appreciation night – July 13. Local VFW Chapters will host a Color Guard and Honor Guard Ceremony. All active and veterans and their families will be given free admission to the fair that night.

Community contest this year include:
• Best baked food product
• Lego with two age categories 1 to 12 years, and 13 and older.
• Recycling
• Pie contest

The fair will bring back the carnival, main stage, free stage, market place, fair food, helicopter rides and 4-H. The fairgrounds is at 13700 Polfer Road, Kansas City, Kansas.

Sponsors are needed for the fair, according to the spokesman. Various levels of sponsorships are available and are proving popular among regional businesses.
