Fun at the fair

Wednesday night was the swine show for 4-H members at the Wyandotte County Fair. The fair is scheduled to continue through Saturday. Tonight is Latino night at the fair, scheduled from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, July 15, at 13700 Polfer Road, Kansas City, Kansas. Tickets are $5 per person and there is a $5 parking fee. Update: Thursday, because of rain, the fair will be closed. It will open again at 5 p.m. Friday.

Today at the fair

Thursday will be Latino night at the Wyandotte County Fair, 13700 Polfer Road.

The fair will open at 5 p.m. and close at 11 p.m.

The carnival will open at 6 p.m. and continue through 11 p.m. Wristbands are $25.

The Main Stage schedule includes Di Luigi Franko, 5-6:45 p.m.; Selekto Show, 7-8 p.m.; Estilo Sierreno, 8:15-9:45 p.m.; and Los Sel Medio Oeste, 10-10:45 p.m.

In the Shade Pavilion, the Reyes Brother Band are scheduled at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.

4-H round robin judging will be at 7 p.m.

COVID-19 vaccines are scheduled to be available from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Red Barn at the Wyandotte County Fair.

Admission to the fair is $5 per person, with an additional parking fee of $5.

Candidates to speak at Democratic breakfast meeting Saturday

Democratic candidates on the Aug. 3 primary ballot are invited to speak at the Wyandotte County Democratic Breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Jalisco’s restaurant, 5000 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

The doors will open at 8 a.m., with the meeting beginning at 9 a.m.

Primary candidates who speak must be registered Democratic voters.

Admission is free, and the meeting is open to Democrats. Doughnuts, coffee, milk and juice are being provided.

Mayor and sheriff candidates will be given five minutes each to speak. Commission candidates will have four minutes, and other candidates, three minutes.

There will be a collection for striking union members from Local 218, Bakers, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Union who are striking at the Frito-Lay plant in Topeka. Canned good donations for them also are being accepted.
