Upcoming campaign events: Buttigieg appearance Wednesday, Holland campaigns

Pete Buttigieg, U.S. secretary of transportation, is scheduled to come to Kansas City, Kansas, on Wednesday afternoon for a Get Out the Vote rally in support of Democrats.

He will be encouraging volunteers to get out and campaign, call voters and work with Common Sense Kansas, the Kansas Democratic Coordinated Campaign.

Holland appearance at library

Mark Holland, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, will participate in a voter forum from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kansas.

Voter registration closes today

Today is the last day to register to vote before the Nov. 8 general election.

Residents may register in person at the election commissioner’s office at 850 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. Advance ballots will be mailed from Oct. 19 to Nov. 1.

Advance voting in-person begins Oct. 24.

Voting in person also takes place on election day, Nov. 8, at the voter’s polling place.

Democrats to meet Saturday

The Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will meet at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Las Islas Sports Bar and Grill, 4929 State Ave.

Guest speakers will be Vicki Hiatt, Kansas Democratic Party chair; and Hank Chamberlain, Democratic National Committee member.

Lauren Martin, 3rd District chair, will speak in favor of voting no on the two constitutional amendments and voting to retain all judges on the ballot.

There also will be information presented about the possibility of passing medical marijuana in the next legislative session.

Those attending the breakfast may start gathering at the restaurant at 8:15 a.m., with the program starting at 9:15 a.m.

The cost of the breakfast is $10 per person, or $7 for students and those on a limited income. Those attending do not have to buy a breakfast to listen to the program.

A sponsor will pay the cost of students attending the meeting for the first time.
