Red Cross blood drives scheduled in Wyandotte County

The American Red Cross has scheduled mobile blood drives in Wyandotte County.

Cabelas at 10300 Cabela Drive, Kansas City, Kansas, has several blood drives scheduled, including today, March 24 and March 31. The times of the Cabela blood drives are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on each of the days.

In addition Earp Distribution at 2730 S. 98th St., has scheduled a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11.

The American Red Cross is urging individuals who are healthy to make an appointment to donate blood.

Donors, especially those with type O blooc, are needed to ensure blood and blood products are available for emergencies and everyday medical treatments, according to a spokesman.

A blood donation appointment may be scheduled by downloading the Red Cross blood donor app at www.redcrossblood.org/blood-donor-app.html, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

For donors who have had COVID-19 in the past, the Red Cross is testing blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. The tests are helpful in identifying potential convalescent plasma donors.

Donors who feel ill or believe they could be ill with COVID-19 are asked to postpone their donations.

Donors are asked to schedule blood donations in advance and to wear masks while at the donor site.

FBI investigating 1998 murder of KCK woman

The FBI is asking the public to assist in an investigation into the 1998 death of Rhonda Tribue, also known as Rhonda Easley. She was a resident of Kansas City, Kansas. Anyone with information may call the FBI’s toll-free tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324)

The FBI Kansas City Division along with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation is looking into the 1998 homicide of Rhonda Tribue.

Tribue, the mother of six children, lived in Kansas City, Kansas, and was found dead from apparent blunt force trauma about 4:40 a.m. Oct. 8, 1998. Her body was discovered in the roadway in the 500 block of South 94th Street near Edwardsville, Kansas, authorities stated.

Tribue had been seen at the Firelight lounge in the early morning hours of that same day, according to a spokesman. She was known to frequent the lounge and the area of 7th and Quindaro in Kansas City, Kansas.

Tribue, 34, was last seen wearing a High-Sierra brand, dark-purple corduroy jacket over a gold lace top, pumpkin-colored jeans and brown sandals, according to authorities.

Tribue may also have been known by her maiden name, Rhonda Easley.

She was described as 5-5, 145 pounds, medium build, brown eyes, and dark brown hair with deep orange and yellow highlights.

The cold case investigation was restarted in 2020, according to the FBI spokesman. Based upon new information developed during this investigation, law enforcement is asking for the public’s assistance.

Victim suffers gunshot wound to hand

A victim suffered a gunshot wound to the hand about 12:40 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, in the 100 block of South Baltimore Street, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Minnesota Avenue, and a victim told them that an unknown person had pulled up in the alley on South Baltimore and shot a gun twice, hitting him in the hand, according to the report.

The victim left and then called 911, according to the report. Police and EMS responded, and the victim was taken to a hospital.

Deputy struck while trying to break up fight

A Sheriff’s deputy was struck while trying to break up a fight between three males at 2:13 a.m. Feb. 7 in the 800 block of Armstrong Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to assist in arresting the suspect, the report stated. When the suspect was taken into custody, the suspect grabbed one of the officers and tried to attack him, the report stated. The suspect was taken into custody, according to the report.

Because of the suspect’s level of intoxication, EMS responded and took him to a hospital for treatment, according to the report.

Injury accident reported on Cleveland

Police responded to an injury crash call at 2:06 p.m. Feb. 7 in the 1500 block of Cleveland Avenue, according to a social media report by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found a crashed vehicle with the driver still inside, according to the report. The vehicle appeared to have left the roadway, struck a tree and come to rest after crashing into a house, the report stated. No injury was noted.

Officers detected a strong smell of PCP and two PCP sticks were observed in the driver’s side floorboard, the report stated. The driver struggled with two officers outside the vehicle, and the officers applied two sets of handcuffs, the report stated. EMS transported the suspect to a hospital because of his combative nature and apparent PCP use, according to the report.

Shooting reported on Haskell

A shooting was reported at 10:20 p.m. Feb. 7 in the 1000 block of Haskell Avenue, according to a social media report by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Police officers discovered a male with life-threatening injuries, according to the report.

Based on initial information, police stated the suspect had fired multiple rounds toward victims and property, and at least one bullet struck a victim.

Multiple occupied dwellings, a parked vehicle and an occupied vehicle also were struck by gunfire, the report stated.

The suspect fled in a red Dodge pickup, according to the report. A red Dodge pickup then was reported as a possible suspect vehicle involved in an accident where the driver fled, the report stated.

Edwardsville police later took a suspect into custody in the case, according to the report.
