Police investigating possible murder-suicide in Highland Crest area

Police are investigating a possible homicide-suicide in the 3000 block of South 46th Terrace in Kansas City, Kan.

Police arrived after receiving a call at 2:46 p.m. today, and found a 17-year-old girl who said she found her mother and stepfather dead when she came home from school, a police spokesman said.

An initial investigation showed that both the man and woman died from gunshot wounds, the police spokesman said. The Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department confirmed their deaths.

The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department is investigating this incident as a murder-suicide, but it cannot confirm whether it is until the investigation is complete, the spokesman said.

The identity of the deceased will be released after positive identification and family notification.

The deaths are under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, which is encouraging anyone with information to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
