Homicide victim near 63rd and Tauromee identified

A homicide victim March 11 near the 6300 block of Tauromee Avenue has been identified, according to police.

The victim was KC Alexander J. Gillespie, 20, a resident of Edwardsville, Kansas, police said.

Gillespie was found inside a white Chevy Suburban that struck a tree about 1:26 p.m. March 11, according to police. The driver was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound, police said.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Injury-accident reported on K-32

An injury-accident was reported about 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, on eastbound K-32 east of 121st, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

A Mazda was traveling eastbound on K-32 and turned on its turn signal to go back westbound on K-32, according to the trooper’s report.

A Hyundai Sonata was unable to stop in time, attempted to avoid the vehicle and struck the driver side of the Mazda, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Mazda, a 39-year-old woman from Bonner Springs, Kansas, was injured and was taken to a hospital, the report stated.

A 6-year-old Bonner Springs girl in the Mazda also was injured and taken to the hospital, the report stated.

Also listed as injured and taken to a hospital was a 5-year-old Bonner Springs girl passenger in the Mazda, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver of the Sonata, an 81-year-old man from Edwardsville, Kansas, was not injured, according to the report.

Wyandotte County students named to semester honors list at Kansas State University

Wyandotte County students have earned semester honors for the fall 2017 semester at Kansas State University.

Students earning a grade point average for the semester of 3.75 or above while taking at least 12 credit hours received semester honors and commendations from their deans. The honors are recorded on their permanent academic records.
