Three nights of comedy and arm wrestling begin July 11
The Alcott Arts Center Theatre, 180 S. 18th St., is the site of three nights of comedy and arm wrestling. “World Championship Arm Wrestling Federation” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. July 11, 18 and 25. It is written and performed by a Kansas City area collective of actors, writers and filmmakers called Rellitray Studios. In the style of professional wrestling, this event will be presented featuring arm wrestling matches as well as sketch comedy. The production is not for children. Adult language and humor is used. Race scheduled July 12 at Wyandotte County Lake Park
The 2014 Psycho Psummer Run Toto Run will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 91st and Leavenworth Road. Runners will meet at Shelter No. 2 for the eighth annual race. It is a 50k, 10-mile and 20-mile race. It will be a beautiful, challenging race on hilly single-track trails. There is an entry fee. Tractor Daze to be Saturday in Bonner Springs
Tractor Daze and Touch-a-Truck are planned Saturday, July 12, at the National Agricultural Hall of Fame, 126th and State, Bonner Springs. The event also will include a swap meet and mud run. Ag Fest will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Ag Fest includes milking demonstrations, farming demonstrations, a petting zoo, soil tunnel trailer, blacksmith, living history and more. Food vendors will be available. Visitors also may enjoy a tractor show, swap meet, garden tractor pull, trucks of all shapes and sizes, working antique construction equipment, kiddie pedal pull, ride a miniature train, Shriner’s clowns and fire wagon, and hay wagon. The kiddie pedal pull will be at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; parade of power at noon; garden tractor pull at 1 p.m., tractor games at 2 p.m. and mud run at 4 p.m. There also will be kids’ identification offered. The swap meet is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. July 11 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 12. Admission, not including the mud run, is $6 for adults, $4 for youth 4 to 14 years old, and free for children under 4. Admission with the mud run is $10 for adults and $5 for youth. The hosts of the event are the Wyandotte County Farm Bureau, Greater Kansas City 2 Cylinder Club and Antique Caterpillar Club.
Athletic field to be dedicated July 12; sports events for youth planned
A punt, pass and kick football event, plus a soccer event, will be held for a community athletic field on Saturday, July 12. The ribbon-cutting ceremony and youth events will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at 1900 N. 9th St., Kansas City, Kan. It is open to the public. Unified Government Commissioner Tarence Maddox is planning to be at the event. The field has been restored and will be dedicated in a ceremony July 12. The field is being dedicated to coach Adrion Roberson. Immediately after the program, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., youth will participate in the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick event. There also will be a soccer match between the Juba Boyz and Somali Soccer of KC. The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick event is free and open to boys and girls ages 6 to 15. Registration is requested by July 7 to nflppk.com. Youth must pre-register to participate. No walk-ins will be allowed. Participants will be divided into five age groups. Cleats will not be allowed.
Live at Legends free concert to be July 12
The Legends Outlets, I-70 and I-435, will sponsor free family friendly concerts on some Saturday evenings during July and August in front of the center courtyard fountain. The Zeros will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 12. The Live at the Legends summer concert series will feature local and regional talent performing popular pop, classic rock and country hits from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and today. The concert series will take place at the center of the Civic Courtyard Fountain in front of Phoenix Theaters Legends 14.
Summer concert to be July 12 at Legends
Dave and Buster’s Summer Concert Series will continue at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 12, on the rooftop patio at The Legends Outlets. Pyromaniac will perform from 9 p.m. to close July 12. Different bands will play on Saturdays through September.
UG to hold budget workshops
The Unified Government will hold special budget workshops in July in the fifth floor conference room, Suite 515, at City Hall, 701N. 7th, Kansas City, Kan. The meetings will be at 5 p.m. Monday, July 14; 5 p.m. Thursday, July 17; 6 p.m. Monday, July 21; 5 p.m. Thursday, July 24; and 5 p.m. Thursday, July 31, if necessary. The final budget public hearing, followed by a budget workshop if necessary, will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, July 28. The meetings are open to the public.
Support group to meet July 14
The National Alliance on Mental Illness, Kansas City, Kan., Support and Education Group, will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Trinity Community Church, 5010 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kan. The program will be a movie, “Hidden Pictures.” Also, it will be the group’s annual picnic. The meetings are designed to bring together persons with questions on how to deal with mental illness. Free summer movies offered
The Legends 14 Theatres will present “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked,” rated G, and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,” rated PG, at 10 a.m. July 15, 16 and 17. Admission is free. All ages and groups are welcome. Doors open at 9 a.m. Seating is limited to availability. The current feature films are not included in the free admission, and the schedule is subject to change.
BPU to meet July 16
The Board of Public Utilities will meet July 16 at the board offices, 540 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The work session will begin at 4:30 p.m. On the agenda for the work session is a general manager update and board update; and a downtown master plan discussion. The regular meeting starts at 6 p.m. On the agenda are a visitors’ time; linemen certificates; Western Fuels resolutions; Partnership for Safe Drinking Water Five Year Director’s Award; board comments, general manager comments; and executive (closed) session.

Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library will hold a program featuring the Kansas City Zoo “Zoo to You” program from 1 to 2 p.m. July 19. Zoo educators, animals and touchable artifacts will be featured. Museum plans lock-in
An all-night lock-in is planned from 7 p.m. July 18 to 8 a.m. July 19 at the Wyandotte County Historical Museum, 126th and State. The event on July 18 is for girls ages 8 to 12. A safe night at the museum, tour, hands-on projects, evening snacks and a movie are planned. Boys will have a similar event on July 25. The cost is $25 per child. One adult must attend. Job readiness skills discussed
“Professional Etiquette via Life Skills for Job Readiness” is a workshop designed to help women assess their skills, set goals, and prepare for the interview and the job. The program is recommended for women seeking entry level positions or women who have had a hard time keeping a job. Participants will leave better prepared for an interview and feeling much more confident in their ability to find a job that matches their interest and skills. Christmas in July event planned
The Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department will have a Christmas in July event from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. July 26 at Wyandotte County Lake, 91st and Leavenworth Road. The event will include activities for children, a disc jockey, food, and a parade of pontoon boats at 8:15 p.m. The event is free to the public.

African-American Art Festival planned Aug. 9

The Schlagle Library at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 91st and Leavenworth Road, will hold an End of Summer Carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 pm. Saturday, Aug. 9. The family event will include games, food, a silent auction and “Doo-Dad Mike,” a musician performing at 11 a.m. The event is free. There is a donation for games. The Leavenworth Road Association will provide lunch and snacks for purchase. United Way campaign opening luncheon to be Sept. 11
United Way of Wyandotte County will kick off its Live Heroic annual campaign with its annual kick-off luncheon set for 11:30 a.m. Sept. 11 at the KCKCC Technology Center. Dotte Trot to benefit SAFE fund
The Dotte Trot, a 5K and 10K run, will be run at 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at Wyandotte County Lake park, 9100 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kan. All proceeds from the run benefit the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment Fund. SAFE supports the families of law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency service personnel in the Kansas City metropolitan area who have died while protecting the community and citizens.
