The Silver City Day parade and celebration is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 1. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at South 42nd and Strong Avenue, and continues to 24th Street. A candidate forum will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Bethel Neighborhood Center, 14 S. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan. The Wyandotte County Candidate Forum on Criminal Justice will include candidates for the Kansas Legislature who will share their views on the criminal justice system. Edwardsville plans fall family picnic and 5k today

The city of Edwardsville will hold a Fall Family Picnic at Edwardsville City Park on Oct. 1. The event is for Edwardsville and celebrates the community, its history and its future. It will feature attractions such as face painting, balloon animals and other field games. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be sold at a small charge. In addition to this year’s picnic will be the Phyllis J. Freeman 5k, 3k walk and kids’ fun run. The 5k race will take place at 8 a.m. Oct. 1, beginning at Edwardsville City Park and concluding on the new trail crossing the bridge into the southeast portion of the park. The cost of the walk is $30. Food and drink will be provided at the end of the race. Proceeds from the 5k will benefit the Kelly Lynn Lutz Memorial Foundation, which provides scholarships to children of parents with cancer.

Piper craft show planned

Providence 5K race Oct. 8 to benefit YMCA

Providence Medical Center and the YMCA of Greater Kansas City will hold a Rock, Roll and Run Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Providence Medical Center Amphitheater, 633 N. 130th St., Bonner Springs, Kan. Medicare open enrollment event to be Oct. 17
U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder, R-3rd Dist., will be the host of two Medicare open enrollment assistance events in October. The events will help provide information for seniors during the Medicare open enrollment period, a spokesman said. The first event will be from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Oct. 17, at Kansas City Kansas Community College Technical Education Center, 6565 State Ave. The second event will be from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Shawnee Town Hall. Trained volunteers from the Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas (SHICK) program will be on hand at the event to provide one-on-one assistance to seniors who have questions, or who wish to make changes to their plans. The Medicare Open Enrollment Period extends from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. Medicare beneficiaries who wish to make changes or enroll for the first time need to bring their Medicare card, any current prescriptions (including dosage and frequency), and a list of preferred pharmacies. Shakespeare in the Parking Lot production planned Sept. 17-18
Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th, will present its Shakespeare in the Parking Lot production at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, and Sunday, Sept. 18. “Twelfth Night” will be this year’s production, and it is set in modern times at the Illyria Boarding School.
