Grinter Place plans Holiday with the Arts on Saturday evening
Grinter Place’s annual Christmas event will be on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the historic site at 78th and K-32 in Kansas City, Kan. According to Pat Spencer of the Grinter Place Friends, there will be a Holiday with the Arts in the evening. The evening event, Holiday with the Arts at the Grinter House, will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 3. Artists, authors and musicians have signed up to be there. Holly Zane of the Wyandot Nation of Kansas is scheduled for a beading demonstration and will have cultural items available for viewing. Those attending may participate in a wine tasting and pairing, as well as a treasure hunt. Tickets are $7 per person or two for $12.

Bonner Springs to hold Candy Cane Christmas and Mayor’s Tree Lighting Dec. 3
Bonner Springs plans a Candy Cane Christmas and Mayor’s Tree Lighting tonight at downtown Bonner Springs, Oak Street and Centennial Park. A parade will be at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 3, followed by a tree lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m., and then hot cocoa, cookies and a visit with Santa Claus at 7 p.m. at the Bonner Springs Community Center. Ag Hall plans visits with Santa
The National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame, 126th and State, Bonner Springs, is planning visits with Santa Claus this weekend. There will be visits with Santa Claus, pictures with Santa, games and train rides. Museum features Olde World Christmas
The Strawberry Hill Museum is featuring an Olde World Christmas, with tours of the museum decorated for the holidays available. The museum is open on weekends. Nighttime tours of the Strawberry Hill Museum are being offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9. The museum will be illuminated by Victorian oil lamps and Christmas lighting. Refreshments will be served. The cost of the tour will be $20, and pre-registration and pre-payment are required. Canteen dance and concert planned Dec. 3
A 1940s canteen dance and concert is planned to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kan. Program Dec. 5 to answer questions about Medicare
An informational program on Medicare will be presented from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The program is for those who might qualify for Medicare and for those who help them. The presentation will discuss who is eligible to receive Medicare benefits, what does it cover, are there other options, what is Medicaid and more. “Holiday Stress – How to React” will be offered from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Support group to meet Dec. 6
A Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Group will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The facilitated support group is for family that have recently, or some time ago, experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss. Reservations are required to 913-906-8990.

BPU to meet Dec. 7
The Board of Public Utilities will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the BPU offices, 540 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The work session will be at 5 p.m., followed by the regular meeting. At the work session, there will be a board update, general manager update and a discussion of customer service policies. On the agenda for the regular session, at 6 p.m., are a visitors’ time, APPA award, communications update, October financial report, bond sale recap, board comments, general manager comments and a closed executive session.

Nail care offered
Individuals may have their fingernails shaped and painted at an appointment between 10 a.m. and noon Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Breakfast with Santa planned Dec. 10
Breakfast with Santa is planned from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Turner Recreation, 831 S. 55th, Kansas City, Kan. The charge for the all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast is $5 for those 13 and older, and $4 for those 4 to 12. Children under 3 eat free with the purchase of an adult plate. Children may have their pictures taken with Santa for free.

KCK school board scheduled to meet Dec. 13

Community writing workshop planned Dec. 13 at Bonner Springs
A community writing workshop facilitated by Anthony Funari will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Bonner Springs City Library, 201 N. Nettleton Ave., Bonner Springs. Members of the community and surrounding area are invited to attend the free workshop. Those who attend should bring a short piece of their writing to the workshop. Dialogue continues Dec. 13 on reducing community violence
A dialogue on reducing community violence will continue at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Patricia Diane Kane Community Center, 3130 N. 122nd St., Kansas City, Kan. It is sponsored by the Mayor’s Clergy Roundtable. Those who attend will be in groups of 10 to 15 people with a facilitator assigned to lead the dialogue. Police officers will join in the small group discussions.

LRA scheduled to meet Dec. 13
The Leavenworth Road Association is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Eisenhower Recreation Center, 2901 N. 72nd, Kansas City, Kan. A social hour at 6 p.m. will be followed by the meeting at 7 p.m. The program will be suggestions for 2017 goals and an update on 2016 accomplishments. Keeler Women’s Center, a ministry of the Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan., offers individual and couples counseling to women and men who might otherwise not be able to afford counseling. Grinter Place Museum
The Grinter Place State Historic Site, 1420 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kan., is one of the oldest homes in the area, built in 1857. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for students; and children 5 and younger free. It is closed on state holidays. Grinter Place is closed for the winter, but is open on Saturday, Dec. 3, for special holiday events.
