Comedy show planned to raise funds for homeless program in KCK schools
Leadership 2000 will present a Night of Comedy to raise funds for the homeless program at the Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools. The comedy show will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at the Improv Comedy Theatre, Zona Rosa, 7250 N.W. 87th St., Kansas City, Missouri. Local comedians B-RICH, Conrad Courtney, Rod Reyes and Andrea Caspari will perform in this benefit event. In addition, there will be a silent auction for sports memorabilia from the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals, University of Kansas and other groups. The cost of admission is $20 and additional donations are accepted. All of the proceeds from ticket sales, donations and a portion of food and drink purchases will directly benefit the students and families of the McKinney-Vento program. Grinter Quilt Show to be April 27-28

Library seeks community comments on future of Main Library
The future of the Main Library will be the topic of three community feedback sessions planned April 28, May 7 and May 16. The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library is holding the feedback sessions so that the community members may share their thoughts about the future of the Main Library, according to a library news release. The sessions will be at 1 p.m. April 28, 6 p.m. May 7 and 11 a.m. May 16 at the Main Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The current Main Library building was opened in 1966 and has been operating for more than 50 years. The community, in the meantime, has grown and changed, and the feedback sessions are designed to get information about what community members want and need at the library. The original Main Library building was built in 1902 at 625 Minnesota Ave. as a Carnegie library. That building was demolished in 1965 for a parking lot for the current building. Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library was formed in 1895. In 1899, it came under the authority of the Kansas City, Kansas, Public School District Board of Education and remains there today. Registration open for Blue Devil 5K and Kids Trot May 5
The 2018 Blue Devil 5K and Kids Trot will be May 5 at Kansas City Kansas Community College. The Blue Devil 5K, which is in its 14th year, is at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 5. The course winds through the KCKCC campus on the roads, walking paths and sidewalks. The Kids Trot follows at 9 a.m. and is geared toward children 11-years and younger. Childcare volunteers will provide activities for the children from 7:30 to 9 a.m., so parents can participate in the run-walk. Registration for the 5K is $20 per person through March 31. The Kids Trot is $10. Registration for both the Blue Devil 5K and the Kid’s Trot includes a T-shirt, Finisher’s Medal, Goodie Bag and an all-you-can eat pancake breakfast following the event. About 200 people participated in the 5K and Kids Trot in 2017. Awards will be given to the top overall male and female finishers. In addition, the winner of each age group will receive an award and a prize. Children in the Kids Trot will run in heats based on age groups. Distances will range from 25 meters to one-quarter of a mile. No strollers are allowed. Polski Day planned May 5 to raise funds for church
All Saints Catholic Church, 8th and Vermont, Kansas City, Kansas, will celebrate Polski Day on Saturday, May 5. A Polka Mass featuring the Good Shepherd Choir will be held at 4 p.m. May 5 at All Saints Church. The event also includes a Polski Day parade at 11 a.m. May 5 from 12th and Central, east to 8th Street, then to Vermont, ending at the church. Program planned on May 8 on immigrants and refugees in the community
“They Are Our Neighbors: Immigrants and Refugees in Our Community” will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in the Main Kansas City, Kansas Public Library, second floor auditorium, 625 Minnesota Ave. The program may discuss the difference between an immigrant and a refugee, what it means to have a green card and be a permanent resident versus a citizen, how many immigrants and refugees are living in the city, where they come from and why, do they have to pay taxes, how the community can help to welcome and integrate them. There will be stories from immigrants and refugees who settled in the Kansas City area.
