Fireworks display planned July 3
The Turner Recreation Commission fireworks display is planned at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Pierson Park, 1800 S. 55th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The program is sponsored by the Turner Recreation Commission and the Unified Government Parks Department. It is open to the public. There will be no parking on the left side of the street, and no outside fireworks will be allowed into the park.

35th Infantry Division Band to play July 4 at T-Bones game
The Marching Band of the 35th Infantry Division Band, the official band of the Kansas National Guard, will play the National Anthem on July 4 at the Kansas City T-Bones game in Kansas City, Kansas. Program planned on succulents and cactus plants
A program on succulents and cactus plants is planned from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 5, in the Sunflower Room of the Wyandotte County Extension office, 1208 N. 79th St., Kansas City, Kansas. There are many varieties, including some hardy varieties in Kansas City. Jesse Nelson with the Family Tree Nursery will demonstrate how to arrange them in containers and how to care for them at the July 5 program. Candlelight vigil to be Sunday evening for two slain deputies
A candlelight vigil will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 17, in front of City Hall to honor two slain deputies, Patrick Rohrer and Theresa King. The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools have scheduled meet-and-greet sessions with superintendent candidate finalists on Wednesday, June 20, and Thursday, June 21. The sessions are scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. June 20 and 21 in the board room at the Central Office and Training Center, 2010 N. 59th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The public may meet the first finalist on Wednesday and the second on Thursday. The public will have the opportunity to meet the superintendent candidates, submit written questions to the finalists, and to leave written comments for the school board about the superintendent candidates. Frank Mason III charity softball game to be at T-Bones Stadium
Former University of Kansas basketball standout Frank Mason III will hold a charity softball game Saturday afternoon to benefit Children’s Mercy Kansas City and the National Youth Foundation. Mason will be joined by KU Head Basketball Coach Bill Self and a number of former Jayhawks and NBA players including Devonte Graham, Josh Jackson, and Sherron Collins as well Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt. The game will be an interactive experience between players and attendees. Fans will be entertained by in-game promotions and giveaways all seven innings. Mason was the 2016-17 Consensus National Player of the Year and currently plays for the Sacramento Kings in the NBA.
