Bonds were approved on Monday, Aug. 31, by the Unified Government Public Building Commission for the remodeling of the Cricket Wireless amphitheater in Bonner Springs, according to the UG Clerk’s office.

On Aug. 27, the UG Commission approved the Cricket Wireless amphitheater remodeling project. The UG and Bonner Springs are providing an additional $115,000 in cash to start the project, according to UG documents. The amphitheater is owned by Wyandotte County.
The next step is for the resolution passed on Monday to be published. The resolution states that the bonds will be issued unless a protest petition signed by 5 percent of the voters in Wyandotte County is filed in opposition to the bond issue within 30 days of publication of the notice. If there is a valid petition filed, then the question of the bond issue would go before the voters at an election, according to the resolution.
The remodel will address safety concerns and improve the appearance of the facility, according to UG documents.
