Marble Crazy going on today, Saturday in Bonner Springs

If you’ve ever wondered how marbles are made, today is the day to find out.

The 16th annual Marble Crazy is going on Friday and Saturday at the Moon Marble Co., 600 E. Front St., Bonner Springs, Kan.

At this event, the public may watch how marbles are made, see contemporary art glass-making, view a marble machine, and visit and buy glass art directly from the artists.

More than 20 artists from around the nation are in Bonner Springs today demonstrating marble-making, said Babs Gallagher, who is in sales with Moon Marble.

“You can come and watch them take turns doing marbles,” she said. “Each of them has a table set up with marbles, and the things they make, such as necklaces, out of glass.”

There will be demonstrations of glass-blowing and of marbles being made by hand. Also, this year there is a marble machine that shows how marbles are made in factories, she said. It is a much smaller scale compared to a factory machine, she added.

There is no admission charge.

Marble Crazy is open until 9 p.m. tonight, and again on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit www.marblecrazy.com.
