UG Economic Development and Finance Committee, and Neighborhood and Community Development Committee to meet

Sept. 12, Monday, 5 p.m., Unified Government Economic Development and Finance Committee. Resolution of intent to issue industrial revenue bonds up to $25 million for the Sunflower Development Group, 505 Central Ave. project.; resolution to set a public hearing on a redevelopment project plan for the 505 Central Ave. project for Oct. 27; second quarter cash investment report; second quarter budget compared to actuals. Planning and zoning meetings scheduled

A redevelopment project plan for the 505 Central Redevelopment District is on the City Planning Commission agenda. A change of zone for a water treatment plant at 2443 S. 88th is one of the items on the agenda. Also, the Piper schools have a preliminary plan to convert an elementary school into a high school with athletic fields at 13021 Leavenworth Road.

Piper Public Schools budget hearing

Sept. 12, Monday, 6 p.m. — The Piper Public Schools will hold a public hearing on exceeding the revenue neutral tax rate at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at 4410 N. 107th St., Kansas City, Kansas. There will be a budget hearing at 6:05 p.m. Sept 12 at 4410 N. 107th.

Edwardsville budget hearing

Sept. 12, Monday, 6 p.m. — A public hearing on the budget for Edwardsville city will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at Edwardsville City Hall, 690 S. 4th St., Edwardsville.

Bonner Springs city budget hearing

Sept. 12, Monday, 7:30 p.m. — A budget hearing for the city of Bonner Springs will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at City Hall, 200 E. 3rd St., Bonner Springs.

Saturday events

Racing continues at Kansas Speedway

Two races are scheduled at Kansas Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Kansas Lottery 300, NASCAR Xfinity Series, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. The Kansas Lottery 150, ARCA Menards Series race, will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. On Sunday, Sept. 11, the Hollywood Casino 400 presented by Barstool Sportsbook, a NASCAR Cup Series race, will be at 2 p.m. For more information, visit www.kansasspeedway.com.

Day of service planned

A Family Day of Service is planned at Cross-Lines Community Outreach Inc. The event honors those who lost their lives and those whose lives were forever changed by Sept. 11. The event will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 10, at Cross-Lines. Volunteers will create kits for community members to celebrate birthdays or special occasions. Renaissance Festival continues, with Highland Fling

The 45th annual Kansas City Renaissance Festival continues Saturday, Sept. 10, at the festival grounds, near 126th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs. The theme of this weekend is Highland Fling. The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, and on weekends through Oct. 16. Tickets may be purchased at the box office or online at www.kcrenfest.com. Today, festival-goers may bring five canned goods for Harvesters Community Food Network and get one free ticket with the purchase of one adult ticket. Military and first responders will get one free ticket with the purchase of one adult ticket.

Maker Faire to be at Alcott Arts Center

A Maker Faire will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th, Kansas City, Kansas. Makers and crafters will sell their items at the outdoor event, weather permitting. The Alcott Arts Center is not yet ADA accessible. Museum exhibit on 100th anniversary of Fairfax continues

Wyandotte County Museum, 126th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs, continues its exhibit on the 100th anniversary of the Fairfax industrial district in Kansas City, Kansas. Besides artifacts, the museum exhibit includes a video on the history of the Fairfax industrial district. The exhibit will run through Sept. 24 at the museum, 621 N. 126th. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Admission is free.

Movie night planned at Legends Outlets

A free family-friendly movie, “Little Giants,” is scheduled to be shown at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at The Legends Lawn, located on the west side of The Legends Outlets at I-70 and I-435. The outdoor movie will be shown, weather permitting.
