The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department is sponsoring a candlelight vigil tonight in memory of slain Capt. Robert David Melton.
The candlelight vigil will be at 8 p.m. tonight in front of City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan.
The funeral arrangements for Capt. Melton, according to the Police Department spokesman, include:
Visitation on Friday, July 22, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Reardon Civic Center, 520 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan.
Funeral service at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 23, at Children’s Mercy Park, home of Sporting KC, at 1 Sporting Way in Kansas City, Kan. Parking will be at the Kansas Speedway.
Ceremonial honors will follow the service at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, Kan.
Donations for a Melton family memorial fund can be made at the Greater KC Public Safety Credit Union locations, including the main branch at 2800 E. 14th St., Kansas City, Mo., 64127, or at the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department headquarters, 700 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. 66101, Attention: Chief’s office. Checks may be made payable to the Captain Robert Melton Memorial Fund.
