Calm, mild conditions for first day of spring

The first day of spring today brings springlike temperatures in a calm atmosphere that hides near-flood conditions close by.

Wyandotte County remains under a flood warning from the National Weather Service for the Missouri River at Parkville, and also for Thursday for the Kansas River at 23rd, which is at Kansas Avenue near the state line. At this time, only minor flooding is predicted on Friday for the Kansas River.

To the north, Leavenworth and Atchison, Kansas, and St. Joseph, Missouri, are experiencing moderate flooding currently. The flooding was caused by snow melt upstream, rainfall and water releases into the Missouri River.

A calm and cloudy day, gradually becoming sunny, is in store today in Wyandotte County.

Today’s weather will have a high near 56, according to the National Weather Service forecast. A west wind will be 7 to 13 mph.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 34 and a west wind around 8 mph becoming north after midnight, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be sunny, with a high near 56 and a north northwest wind around 7 mph, the weather service said.

Thursday night, it will be clear, with a low of 35 and a west wind of 5 mph, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be sunny, with a high near 61 and a light and variable wind becoming north northeast around 6 mph in the morning, the weather service said.

Friday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 38, according to the weather service.

Saturday, there is a 70 percent chance of precipitation, mainly after 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 56.

Saturday night, the low will be around 48 with a 60 percent chance of precipitation, mainly after 1 a.m., according to the weather service.

Sunday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers with a high near 64, the weather service said.

Sunday night, there is a 60 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The high will be near 64.

Monday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers, with a high of 53, the weather service said.

Monday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 33, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 53, the weather service said.
