The Central Avenue Betterment Association is joining with The Hispanic Chamber of Greater Kansas City, the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department and the U.S. Army to launch a beautification project May 1 for Central Avenue and the parks in the area.
May 1 is the beginning of many special summer events held by CABA. The community beautification project is just one of the many upcoming events to enhance the image of Central Avenue to make it a more family-friendly atmosphere, a spokesman said.
The Central Avenue beautification project goals: Beautify Central Avenue from 5th to 18th Street and enhance Bethany Park, Simpson, Lally, and Trolly Park, plant roses, and repair all hazardous openings in the parks.
The schedule on May 1:
• 8 a.m. Breakfast provided by the Waffle House for community leadership, beautification volunteers and special guests.
• 8:30 a.m. Welcome to Central Avenue, remarks by Mayor Mark Holland.
• 8:40 a.m. Opening program remarks by Carlos Gomez and Edgar Galicia.
• 9 a.m. Work begins in cooperation with the Unified Government’s Parks and Recreation Department and the U.S. Army Forces.
• Noon beautification work completion.
• 12:30 p.m. Flag ceremony by U.S. Army at Lally Park (10th Street and Central Avenue).
• 12:55 p.m. Closing statement by special guest.
• 1 p.m. Lunch provided by La Placita’s Vendor Coalition for community leadership, beautification volunteers and special guests.
