Fire crews evacuated businesses near 77th and Parallel Jan. 19 because of an odor of gasoline.
Fire crews arriving at the site after the call around 12:57 p.m. reported smelling gasoline from the sewer drain, according to a Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department spokesman.
Hazardous materials units were ordered, along with an environmental compliance officer from wastewater management.
Authorities decided to flush the sewer drain and take test readings after flushing, according to the spokesman. Test readings were at zero and businesses were allowed to reopen, the spokesman said.
There were no injuries reported.
