George Daniel Lingenfelser, 29, Bonner Springs, was found guilty of second-degree murder in connection with the Dec. 7, 2014, shooting death of Janet Billings, his live-in girlfriend.
A jury in Wyandotte County District Court handed down the decision after deliberating for more than 11 hours.
Billings was shot to death in the parking lot of the Lowe’s store in the 6900 block of State Avenue in Kansas City, Kan. The shooting occurred shortly before noon on a Sunday, with other customers present.
District Attorney Jerry Gorman stated the jury deliberated diligently for more than 11 hours over three days.
“The efforts of the jury are very much appreciated,” Gorman said.
Sentencing is set for 10 a.m. March 3 in Division 8 of the district court.
Should have got premeditated 1st degree and sentenced to life. Someone gets life for selling dope or smoking it. But this man kills an innocent person and gets this. No wonder we have all the killings. They just get a slap on the hands. Asinine. My opinion the justice system has let Janet’s parents siblings nieces nephews aunts uncles and grandparents down. Yes she was someone’s daughter sister aunt granddaughter niece and just an all around great person.
