Kansas City Kansas Community College stayed in contention in the jumbled Jayhawk Conference men’s soccer race with a pressurized 1-0 win over Allen County Saturday night.
The win evened the Blue Devils’ overall record at 3-3-1 and Jayhawk mark at 2-2 heading into a road game at Coffeyville Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Johnson County (2-0-1) leads the conference followed by Neosho County (3-1), Cowley College (3-1-1) and KCKCC (2-2). The Blue Devils then return home Sunday to play host to St. Louis Community College in a noon kickoff.
It’s KCKCC final non-conference contest of the season before the second round of Jayhawk play begins with a home contest with Neosho Oct. 2.
Freshman Elijah Bathily scored the game’s lone goal with 18 minutes left in the contest, taking a free kick from 40 yards out by Leonardo Notarnicola and then beating the defense for the decisive goal.
The Blue Devils outshot Allen 10-4 and goalkeeper Bosco Pery turned back the Red Devils’ lone shot on goal.
“A good win,” KCKCC coach Ruben Rodriguez said. “We played conservatively and controlled the ball the majority of the game, which was our purpose.”
