Kansas City Kansas Community College rebounded from a late-inning 2-1 loss to Metropolitan-Maple Woods Sunday behind the pitching and hitting of freshman Mackenzie Pinkerton in a 6-4 win.
After being back in action Monday against Jayhawk Conference rival Fort Scott at 2 p.m., the Blue Devils (23-13) go to Park University junior varsity Tuesday and then play host to Coffeyville Thursday, both at 2 and 4 p.m.
Pinkerton scattered six hits and drove in three runs in the 6-4 win in games shifted from Maple Woods to KCKCC.
Pinkerton (9-7) struck out six and walked two while the Blue Devils backed her with 11 hits. Shay Grosstephan and Jennica Messer had three hits and Hannah Redick and Kaylee Arnzen two each to lead the way.
Trailing 4-3 in the sixth inning, KCKCC tied the game on a single by Redick, walk and Arnzen single and then went ahead on Pinkerton’s run-scoring ground ball.
The Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead in the first on a single by Redick, walk, double by Grosstephan and Pinkerton ground ball and added a third run in the third on singles by Grosstephan, Arnzen and Pinkerton.
Grosstephan pitched shutout ball until the bottom of the sixth inning of the opener only to have Jessica Callahan deliver a two-out, two-run double for the win.
Grosstephan (9-4) walked three and struck out three in six innings. The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the third on singles by Devin Purcell, Grosstephan and Arnzen. Pinkerton, Purcell and Grosstephan each had a pair of hits.
