Edged 2-1 at league-leading Cowley College Saturday, Kansas City Kansas Community College gets a chance to move back up the Jayhawk Conference standings when the Blue Devils play host to County Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Seeking a sweep, a win would pull KCKCC (3-3) into a tie with Neosho (4-2) for third place in the Jayhawk with three games to go. The Blue Devils posted a 2-1 win over Neosho earlier, one of only two Panthers’ (10-2) losses this season. Tuesday’s game is a makeup of a game postponed by lightning and rain last Wednesday.
The Blue Devils are also home Friday against Johnson County in a women’s-men’s doubleheader starting at 5 and 7:30 p.m. Cowley (5-1-1) holds a half-game lead over Johnson County (4-1-1) followed by Neosho (4-2), KCKCC (3-3), Allen County (3-5) and Coffeyville (0-7).
A stout Cowley defense limited the Blue Devils (4-5-1) to just six shots Saturday. Meanwhile, KCKCC goalkeeper Bosco Pery was turning away seven Tiger shots on goal.
KCKCC’s lone goal came with three minutes left on a shot by freshman forward Leonard Bonelli. Cowley took a 1-0 13 minutes into the game on a goal by Lucas Mauro and then got an insurance goal from Murilo Ramos 12 minutes into the second half.
