Kansas City Kansas Community College’s first men’s soccer win came in spectacular fashion.

Felipe Kerr on a pass from Kervens Joseph kicked in the game winner with just three minutes remaining in a 3-2 Blue Devil win over Dodge City Saturday.

The Blue Devils are back in action Wednesday, playing Johnson County at 7:30 p.m. in Overland Park. Women’s teams will kick off at 5 p.m.

The Blue Devils led three times against Dodge City. Kerr gave KCKCC a quick 1-0 lead on a pass from Leonardo Boneli two minutes into the game but Dodge’s Dave Straube tied it with an unassisted goal with six minutes left in the half.

Dodge City then put KCKCC back in front as the Conquistadors inadvertently kicked the ball into their own goal five minutes into the second half. Ramon Somolinos got Dodge back even at 2-2 with an unassisted goal with 15 minutes left to set up Kerr’s dramatic game-winner.

The Blue Devils peppered Dodge goalkeeper Lumale Guthier with 17 shots on goal while Christian Villegas was turning away 12 of the Conqs’ 14 shots, six in each half.

“Overall, a much better performance. We showed much improvement on both sides of the ball than our first two matches,” KCKCC assistant coach Burke Slusher said. “We just need to continue to improve heading into our Johnson County match Wednesday.”
