Kansas City Kansas Community College dominated from start to finish in a 3-0 home soccer blanking of Allen County Tuesday.
The win moved the Blue Devils (4-4-1) to within a half-game of Johnson County (4-3-1) in the race for third place in the Jayhawk East Conference. KCKCC closes out regular season play at home Sunday, as host of Coffeyville (1-7) at 7:30 p.m. while JCCC plays at Coffeyville Thursday and is host to second place Neosho County (6-3) Saturday. Should KCKCC and JCCC tie, the Blue Devils have the edge because of a 3-1 win over JCCC early in the season. The two teams tied in their second meeting.
Sophomore midfielder Reed Axthelm gave KCKCC a 1-0 lead just 22 minutes into the clash with Allen County. The goal came on an assist from freshman Alejandro Maillet. Eight minutes later, sophomore Ethan Pfeifer made it 2-0 on an unassisted goal. Maillert then closed out the scoring with an assist from Alvaro Garrigos with 10 minutes remaining.
KCKCC peppered the Red Devils’ goal with 24 shots including 12 on goal. Allen County, meanwhile, managed just five shots – none in the first half – as freshman goalkeeper Fabian Keiblinger turned away the only two shots on goal for his third shutout of the season.
