Blue Devils’ Basler, Maynard sweep player of week honors

Kansas City Kansas Community College made a sweep of KJCCC Division II Softball Player of the Week honors.

Bradi Basler was voted Pitcher of the Week; shortstop Savannah Maynard earned Player of the Week honors. It was the second Pitcher of the Week honor for Basler, who was also the Week 4 honoree.

Both Blue Devils played major roles as KCKCC swept Jayhawk Conference doubleheaders from Fort Scott, Coffeyville and Hesston and a non-conference twin bill from Metropolitan.

A sophomore from Lansing, Basler was 5-0 for the week with one save. She allowed two or less runs in three of the five wins. In 27 innings, Basler struck out 21 and walked 10. For the season, she is 12-3 with a 2.84 earned run average, striking out 79 while walking 29.

Basler also had a big week at the plate, rapping out 12 hits in 24 times at bat, homering twice and driving in 13 runs. She leads the Blue Devils in hitting (.495), RBI (40) and is second in slugging percentage (.774).

A freshman from Vermillion, Ohio, Maynard hit .500, lashing out 13 hits in 26 times at the plate and driving in 14 runs. Her 13 hits included one home run and seven doubles.

She also shined defensively, turning one spectacular double play. Hitting leadoff for the Blue Devils, Maynard is batting .440 and leads in doubles (16) and extra base hits (24).
