Blue Devil golfers defeat Barton by 15 shots in 5-team tourney

Kansas City Kansas Community College posted one of its most satisfying golf wins in recent years Tuesday, defeating perennial power Barton County by 15 shots in a five-team tournament at Rolling Meadows in Junction City.

Taking four of the top half-dozen places in medalist competition, the Blue Devil A team put together rounds of 300 and 295 for a 595 total. Barton County A was second with a 310-300-610 followed by Coffeyville A, 628; KCKCC B, 629; Coffeyville B, 644; Barton B, 661; and Allen County, 665. Independence also competed.

Freshman Micah Morris of Guthrie, Okla., led the Blue Devils by tying for first place in medalist play with a 71-74-145. Sophomore Jeremy Durham of Derby finished fourth (74-76-150) while sophomore Marc McClain (80-71-151) of Bonner Springs and Evan Scharzer (77-74-151) of Blue Valley North finished in a tie for fifth. Matt Thayne, a sophomore from Hesston, was another stroke back with a 77-75-152 followed by Wichita freshman Bobby Armstrong (78-79-157).

The Blue Devils resume play next Monday and Tuesday in the Central Missouri Invitational in Marshall.
