Blood donations needed; donors to receive gift cards

Blood donations are urgently needed between Thanksgiving and Christmas, according to the Red Cross.

Individuals are asked to give a pint of blood this holiday season by making an appointment to donate and help the American Red Cross make sure a sufficient supply is available for patients throughout the holiday season, a spokesman stated.

Those with type O blood are especially needed, according to the spokesman.

Persons may make an appointment by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App (https://www.redcrossblood.org/blood-donor-app.html), visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.

In thanks for helping meet the urgent need, those who come to give blood now through Dec. 18 will receive a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card via email, courtesy of Suburban Propane. Restrictions apply; see amazon.com/gc-legal. More information and details are available at RedCrossBlood.org/Thanks.

There are two nearby upcoming mobile blood drives:

A Red Cross blood drive will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 2, at the Elm Grove Baptist Church, 15774 Linwood Road.

A Red Cross blood drive will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Joe E. Amayo Argentine Community Center, 2810 Metropolitan Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.
