Black history programs canceled

A black history program to be presented by Chester Owens Jr. on March 22 at the Wyandotte County Historical Society meeting has been canceled because of the COVID-19 coronavirus risk, according to officials.

The topic of the program was the history of Sumner High School. The program will be rescheduled at a later date, according to officials.

According to Wyandotte County Museum officials, a new exhibit at the museum will be open to the public during regular museum hours. “Look Up, the Fascinating Architecture of Wyandotte County,” includes photos of historic architecture throughout Wyandotte County. It will be open through June 13. David Hartman, curator, took some of the photos and curated the exhibit. There are no talks or gatherings in conjunction with the exhibit. The museum is at 126th and State in Bonner Springs.

Another Chester Owens Jr. speaking engagement, this one at the Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library on March 23, also will be canceled, according to library officials.

The March 23 topic was about the history of Western University and the A.M.E. Church in Kansas City, Kansas.

All library programs are being canceled at the present time to stop the spread of the coronavirus, according to library officials.
