Bert Cantwell memorial highway sign dedicated

Friends and family members of the late Bert Cantwell gathered Sunday morning, June 3, for the dedication of a memorial highway sign at the 110th Street exit off I-70 in Kansas City, Kansas. Cantwell served as Wyandotte County Sheriff, U.S. Marshal for Kansas and the superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol. A lawyer, he also served as the president of the Kansas City, Kansas, Area Chamber of Commerce. A Democrat, he lost in a close race for Kansas attorney general to Republican Bob Stephan in 1990. Cantwell died in 1996 at the age of 64 while on a vacation trip to Ireland. (Photos by Murrel Bland)
