Basketball update: Piper girls, Bishop Ward girls, Washington boys, Piper boys, Bishop Ward boys advance to substate basketball championship games today

After a win Friday night by the Piper High School girls basketball team over Basehor-Linwood, Piper will advance to the finals of the girls substate championship at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Piper.

Piper, 15-5, plays Tonganoxie, 6-14, for the Class 4A, Division I, substate title tonight.

Tonganoxie defeated Sumner Academy in overtime, 46-41, on Friday night in other girls basketball action at Piper.

Bishop Ward girls in substate final
Also playing in a substate championship tonight are the Bishop Ward High School girls, who will face Baldwin at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Perry-Lecompton.

Bishop Ward, 5-15, beat Perry-Lecompton 43-39 to advance to the championship game. Baldwin has a 17-3 record.

Schlagle girls

The Schlagle girls basketball team, in Class 5A, lost 62-16 to Leavenworth on Friday night in the Class 5A substate title game at Leavenworth.

Washington boys in title game at 2 p.m. today
The Washington High School boys basketball team will play for the substate title game at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Washington.

Washington defeated Topeka West, 68-51, on Thursday to advance to the finals. Washington, 16-4, will face Lansing, 12-8, in this game.

Piper boys in substate final tonight
The Piper boys are in the Class 4A, Division I, substate final at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Piper.

Piper defeated Sumner Academy, 76-56, on Thursday to advance to the finals.

Piper, 13-7, faces Basehor-Linwood, 20-0, in tonight’s game.

Bishop Ward boys play Osawatomie for substate title tonight
The Bishop Ward boys basketball team will take on Osawatomie for the Class 4A, Division II, substate title tonight at Perry-Lecompton.

Bishop Ward defeated Perry-Lecompton 55-49 on Thursday to advance to the finals.

Bishop Ward, 5-15, faces Osawatomie, 12-8, in the substate title game tonight.

The state basketball tournaments will be March 11-14.

The Class 5A tournament is at the Kansas Expocenter in Topeka; the Class 4A Division I tournament is at the Salina Bicentennial Center; and the Class 4A Division II tournament is at Hartman Arena, Park City, which is north of Wichita.
