BPU to meet today

The Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Public Utilities will meet at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. today, Nov. 2.

The work session begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the regular session at 6 p.m.

On the agenda for the 6 p.m. regular meeting are a public comment time; general manager and staff reports, the third quarter financial report; a risk management plan review; miscellaneous comments; board comments and a closed, executive session.

On the agenda for the 4:30 p.m. work session are a board update, general manager update, self-recognition resolution, and Wyandotte County redistricting.

Temperatures to reach 78 today

Temperatures will rise into the upper 70s today, according to the National Weather Service.

The above-normal temperatures are expected to continue on Thursday, with a high near 78, the weather service said.

After rain on Thursday night, the high on Friday is expected to be 69, according to the weather service.

Breezy conditions are expected now through the end of the week, the weather service said. Dry fuels and gusty winds will elevate fire weather concerns.

Rain returns Thursday night through Saturday, with a potential at times for heavy rain.

Today, it will be sunny, with a high near 78, the weather service said. A south wind of 8 to 16 mph will gust as high as 28 mph.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 59, according to the weather service. A south wind of around 14 mph, gusting as high as 30 mph.

Thursday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 78, the weather service said. A south wind of 15 to 20 mph will gust as high as 33 mph.

Thursday night, there will be a 60 percent chance of showers, and possibly a thunderstorm. The low will be around 63 with a south wind of 15 mph, gusting as high as 28 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Friday, there is a 100 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, with a high near 69, the weather service said. A south wind of 11 to 14 mph is forecast, gusting as high as 29 mph. Between three-quarters and one inch of rain is possible.

Friday night, there is a 70 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 40. Between a half and three-quarters inch of rain is possible.

Saturday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers before 1 p.m., with a high near 57, the weather service said.

Person of interest in custody in Halloween shooting

Detectives with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department have taken a person of interest into custody in Monday night’s shooting at a Halloween party that left one teen dead and six others injured.

The vehicle police believe was driven by suspects has also been recovered, a police spokesman stated.

The spokesman stated KCKPD would like to thank those who have come forward with information regarding the shooting and strongly urge other to come forward as they continue to investigate the case.
