Spring weather: Almost everything in forecast today

Rain, snow, thunderstorms, wind, warm, cold – all of this is possible in the region during the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.

Enjoy today’s weather, because Wednesday’s will be 30 degrees colder.

Today started off with beautiful weather and temperatures of 54 degrees at 8 a.m.

The high is predicted to be 76 degrees this afternoon.

However, there is a slight, 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m., the weather service said.

The threat of thunderstorms will develop late this afternoon and persist only into the early evening hours, the weather service said. The thunderstorms are most likely along a line from Butler to Chillicothe to Macon, Mo.

Tonight, rain is likely, possibly mixing with snow after 3 a.m., then gradually ending. Some thunder is also possible. The low will be around 31, and winds will blow from 17 to 22 mph, increasing to 25 to 30 mph in the evening. Winds may gust up to 39 mph.

Tonight’s chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New snow accumulation of less than half an inch is possible.

Wednesday, the weather will be mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Winds will be around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

Wednesday night’s low will be 29.

Thursday will be sunny, with a high near 61.

KCK medic left with minor knee abrasion after patient tries to get out of ambulance

A Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department EMS crew member fell out of an ambulance today after a patient tried to leave the vehicle en route to St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

According to a spokesman for the Fire Department, crews were taking a 34-year-old man to the hospital after responding to a medical call in the 2300 block of Birch Drive. The man was having trouble breathing.

While going to St. Luke’s the patient became agitated, pulled the IV from his arm, removed his restraints and tried to leave the ambulance, the spokesman said.

The EMS unit then pulled over to the side of the road at 43rd and Jefferson in Kansas City, Mo.

The patient struggled with the paramedic and forced open the door, causing both the medic and the patient to fall out of the unit, according to the spokesman.

Another crew member helped to restrain the patient. A passing Kansas City, Mo., police officer saw what was happening and stopped to restrain the patient.

A Kansas City, Mo., EMS unit then transported the patient to the hospital.

The EMS crew member was evaluated at a local hospital and released back to duty with a minor abrasion to one knee, the spokesman said.
