AT&T to boost cell phone service with tower on wheels at Providence amphitheater

Thousands are coming together regularly to enjoy Providence Medical Center Amphitheater this summer.

AT&T is keeping the data-hungry crowds connected, according to a spokesman. It’s bringing in extra network support so customers can show their friends and family the great time they’re having.

AT&T is bringing in a cell tower on wheels to get ready for the large number of smartphone users at the popular concert venue. The cell tower boosts internet connectivity. The improved coverage will give customers faster and more reliable connections as the event runs through the 2016 concert season.

“Premier concert venues such as Providence Medical Center Amphitheater are full of customers who want to instantly share memories through texts, pictures, status updates and phone calls,” said Mike Scott, president of AT&T Kansas. “We’re working hard to give them great coverage and fast speeds.”

AT&T has invested more than $675 million in Kansas City-area wireless and wired networks during 2013-2015. These investments drive upgrades to enhance reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and businesses. They also enhance critical services that support public safety and first responders.

The Providence amphitheater season has already started, and a concert is planned Thursday, June 2, with Keith Urban. The amphitheater is near 130th and State in Bonner Springs.
